Critical glycolysis enzyme reactions
Gluconeogenesis note
To go from pyruvate to glucose, it uses (top right)
What is the TCA Cycle
• Takes place in matrix of mitochondria • Only occurs if O2 is present
Pyruvate Dehydrogenase
• Pyruvate enters mitochondria and pyruvate dehydrogenase (3 enzyme complex) • Catalyses IRREVERSIBLE oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate into acetyl CoA, CO2 and NADH • This bit generates 2 NADH from each pyruvate
The cycle i actually need to know
Find a worded desription of this
How does the ETC work
fibd
What is an uncoupling protein
• Channel protein in inner mitochondrial membrane • Allows protons to cross intter mitochondrial membrane without generating ATP • Generates heat though
In times of plenty…
ATP, NADH, acetyl-CoA and citrate accumulate, need to be regulated, reversible reactions from earlier may occur to reduce conc of molecules • more glycogen produced, • acetyl can be drawn from central pathway to synthesise fatty acids
What is acetyl polymerisation
Fat metabolism
What is beta oxidation
more
Protein metabolism
Nitrogen -> Ammonia -> urea -> excreted
Know urea cycle, where proteins adn fats come in
