How can magnesium be used to differentiate between a strong and weak acid of the same concentration
• Strong acid will fizz • at grater rate than weak acid
conversion between 0.03 dm3 into cm3
• x1000 • 30 cm
Name a compound needed to produce nitric acid
water
why does the mass of the test tube decrease when copper carbonate it thermally decomposed
• gas is formed • which escapes into surroundings
What is needed to produce nitric acid
• water • ammonia
why cant phosphate not be used directly
insoluble in water
why should be use nitrogen instead of hydrogen to produce ammonia
• nitrogen is renewable • nitrogen in abundant • nitrogen releases less ghg • CO2 contribute to global warming
Method for titration
• Meausre 25cm of alkali using pipette and add to conical flask • add few drops of indicator • fill burette with citric acid • place conical flask on white tile • add citric acid to flask until there is a permanent colour change • meaure the volume of acid added
Why is a burette used to add acid
• add aicd is small increments • can measure variable volumes • more accurate than a measuring cylinder
