Biology
Is the study of living things.
Organisms
Living Things
MRSFERG
Movement Respiration Sensitivity Feeding Excretion Reproduction Growth
Movement
Animals can move from place to place Plants do not move, they move when they grow or when a flower opens and closes its petals
Respiration
Respiration is the way living things get energy. They take in oxygen and mix it with food to get energy.
Sensitivity
Sensitivity is the ability to react to changes in the environment. Animals will run away from danger, a plant will grow towards light.
Feeding
Animals do make their own food They get food by eating plants and other animals. Plants make their own food.
Photosynthesis
The way in which plants make it is called photosynthesis. To make food they need a green dye called chlorophyll. This is why the plants are green.
Excretion
Excretion is the removal of waste made in the body, from the body. Animals excrete carbon dioxide, water, urea and salts.
Reproduction
Reproduction is being able to make new individuals of the same kind.Eg. Babies, new plants, puppies
Growth
Growth results from cell division
Cell Membrane
Very thin layer that surrounds the cell. Holds cell contents in place and controls what passes into and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm
The water liquid found between the nucleus and the cell membrane
Nucleus
Is normally round. It acts as the control centre of the cell. It has the DNA
Mitochondria
Supply energy to the cell
Cell wall
Found outside the cell membrane of a plant cell. Gives strength to the cell
Vacuole
Space containing water, sugar And wastes - gives strength to the cell
Chloroplasts
Contain chlorophyll to help make food using sunlight (photosynthesis)
Invertebrates
Animals that do not have a backbone
Vertebrates
Animals that have a backbone. Vertebrates are normally bigger and more complex animals are invertebrates.
