What is mitosis?
Mitosis gives rise to two daughter cells tat are almost identical to the parent cells
What is meiosis?
Gamates e.g egg and sperm but they only get half of the genetic information The gamates pair together making a cell that is completely different from the parent cell
What interphase stage
The interphase stage is where the cell grow, undergo protein synthesis and makes organelles There are 2 stages which are G1, S, G2 G1- the cell grow for cell division S- chromatids are copied and pasted so the 46 chromosomes will have 2 sister chromatids G2- cells grow more for mitosis
What happens in the Mitosis stage
• prophase - chromatids untangle and become single chromosomes, there is a centromere and each end and the spindle fibre change the position of the chromosomes • Metaphase- the chromosomes align with the metaphase plate • Prometaphase-the nuclear membrane disintegrates • Anaphase- centrosomes pull the sister chromatids apart into different directions • Telophase- The cell have 2 nuclei and are split into 2 daughter cells
What happens in the prophase 1 of meiosis?
Leptotene- nuclear meembrane distegrates and the chromsomes have a 2 sister chromatid. Zygotene- Chromosomes bind to homologue ( tetrad) Pachytene- Exchange of genetic material crossover swapping between the paterinal and materinal Diplotene- homolgous chromsomes pulls away from each other
What happens in the meiosis 1 stage?
Metaphase 1- tertard chromatids go to the metaphase plates Anaphase 1- tetrad split and go into different directions Telophase- Go into 2 daughter cells
What happens in the meiosis 2 stage?
Prophase 2- nuclear membrane distegrates Metaphase 2- spindle forms Anaphase- chromatids split and go into different directions Telophase 2 - Nuclei form 4 daughter cells
