Molar Volume (Vm)
• volume occupied by one mole of gas at a specified set of conditions • one mole of all gases at the same temperature and pressure will occupy same volume
Standard laboratory conditions
• 25 degrees celcius • 100.0kPa • Molar volume = 24.8 L/mol
Greenhouse gases Combustion reactions
• all combustion reactions involve at least one greenhouse gas • greenhouse gases contribute to natural/enhanced greenhouse effect • leads to global warming • major greenhouse gases: water vapour, carbon dioxide & methane
Water
• SLC: water (l) & doesn’t contribute to total greenhouse amount produced • non-standard conditions above 100 degrees, water (g) & contribute to total amount of greenhouse gases produced
Methane
• 10x more potent than CO₂ • combustion can be seen as a ‘net-green process’ (better for environment)
Net Change of Greenhouse Gases
Net Amount = Amount produced - amount consumed
Heat of Combustion
amount of heat energy released by combustion of one mole of fuel
