Using a mortar and pestle ground together iron filings and sulfur. • use magnet to separate iron from sulfur • mix again, place in test tube and heat up using a Bunsen burner and retort stand • it will glow, then turn solid dark gray -can’t be separated, it’s a compound , different properties than the elements from which it’s made
