The difference between the two theories of plate tectonic motion
The difference between the 2 theories of plate tectonic motion is that “Continental Drift” was creatied by Alfred Wegner in 1912 and states that the continents have been slowly moving apart 1-2 cm a yr while, “Catasrtrophic Plate Tectonics” is that a large catastrophy broke up Pangea and started moving (separation was immediate NOT slow & steady)
The layers of the earth
The layers of the Earth are:The Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core.
The three different types of plate boundaries
The 3 different types of plate boundaries are : Convergent,Divergent, and Transform boundaries.
The difference between magma & lava
Magma in the mantle (molten liquid rock), Lava is Magma that reaches the surface
What geographical features can each of the different types of plate boundaries can form
-Mountains (convergent) (subduction) -Volcanoes(Divergent/Convergent) (subduction) -Faults(Transform)
How does the mantle cause the motion of plate tectonics?
Mantle causes plate tectonic motion by creating “Convection Currents” and therefore, moving it.
Who is Alfred Wegener, and what theory is he responsible for?
Afred Wegner is (pronounced vegner) responsible for creating the theory of continental drift and was a german scientist.
How do volcanoes form?
there ar 2 ways for volcanoes to form: a Volcano is created along a convergent boundary when 2 plates collide OR Volcanoes are created on a divergent boundary (most of the time in the ocean) creating a rift.
What causes earthquakes?
Earthquakes are caused by transform boundaries when 2 plates slide next to each other.
