Card preview (24)
Liquid
The particles are closely packed together, but they can still slide past each other.
Solid
The particles are locked in fixed position.
Gas
The particles are in constant state of motion and rarely stick together.
Plasma
The particles are broken apart.
Energy
The ability to work.
Thermal Energy
A substances ability to move and produce heat.
Evaporation
When a substance gets hot enough it evaporates into the air.
Sublimation
When a solid changes into a gas or when a gas changes into a solid.
Condensation
When a gas changes into a liquid.
Crystalline Solid
Crystals in a solid.
Amorphous Solid
Where a solids particles are not arranged in order.
Surface Tension
Property of liquids.
Kinetic Energy
Energy of motion.
Heat
When something is hot it has heat.
Endothermic Changes
Changes that require energy.
Exothermic Changes
Changes where energy is being released.
Fluid
Anything that has the ability to flow.
Buoyant Forces
An upward force that pushes on any state or matter.
Pressure
The amount of force exerted on something.
Archimedes’ Principle
States that buoyant force on an object.
Pascal
The SI unit for pressure.
Viscosity
When the flow is being resisted to a liquid.
Bernoulli’s Principle
States that as the speed of a fluid increases, the pressure decreases.
Boyle’s Law
States that as the volume of the gas increases the pressure decreases and the volume of the gas decreases as the pressure of the gas increases.
