#1
Front (Question)

Cropping sequences are based on what two considerations?

Back (Answer)

Agronomic and Economic

#2
Front (Question)

Define ‘crop rotation’.

Back (Answer)

Crop rotation is the swapping of usually two or more varieties of crops either during the same year or in alternating years. Some of the reasoning behind crop rotation is for economic purposes, others include less pests, weed management, and sequestering nutrients. By rotating corn and soy beans the farmer can benefit from the added nitrogen in the soil and the deterrent of common pests that plague either corn or soy beans.

#3
Front (Question)

Match the following crop rotations.

Back (Answer)

Ratoon cropping: After harvest, the crop is allowed to regrow for a second harvest the same season. Intercropping: Seeding a second crop in the field before the first crop is harvested. Double-cropping: Planting another crop after the first is harvested and before the end of the growing season.

#4
Front (Question)

What are three factors that are important in variety selection of crops?

Back (Answer)

Maturity, Yield potential, Insect and disease control

#5
Front (Question)

If you want 15,000 plants per acre at harvest and have seed with a germination rate of 95% and you expect 95% of the germinated seedlings to survive, what is the seeding rate per acre?

Back (Answer)

16,620

#6
Front (Question)

What are the two major traits placed into transgenic crops?

Back (Answer)

Herbicide and Insect resistance

#7
Front (Question)

The ideal soil condition prior to planting should be:

Back (Answer)

Slightly moist and should crumble when squeezed

#8
Front (Question)

The plant population density required for an optimum yield determines the seeding rate of a crop.

Back (Answer)

True

#9
Front (Question)

What is the ‘rule of thumb’ for seed planting depth?

Back (Answer)

4 to 5 times the diameter

#10
Front (Question)

What is the maximum level of grain moisture allowed for most crops?

Back (Answer)

14 percent

#11
Front (Question)
