Type B
• Non-competitive • Lower personal stress • Relaxed
Anxiety
A negative emotional state closely linked with arousal.
State anxiety
Anxiety that is felt in a particular situation. - Somatic (bodily response) - Cognitive (psychological worry)
Trait Theory
• Personality innate • Inherited through genes • Natural inclination –> how you respond to situations pre-determined B=F(P) Behaviour = Function. (Personality)
Stable
Constant in their emotional behaviour (does not swing from one emotion to another)
Unstable/neurotic
Someone highly anxious and unpredictable emotions
Extroversion
• Seeks social situations • Likes excitement • Lacks concentration • Performs better with high arousal
Introversion
• Does not seek social situations • Likes peace and quiet • Good at concentrating • Performs better with low arousal
Reticular Activating System (RAS)
• Determines whether someone is inclined towards I/E • Extroverts RAS inhibits effects of external sensory stimuli –> leads to low internal arousal in brain • Seek external stimulation to acheive higher internal arousal • Introverts have high internal arousal
Social Learning
• All behaviour learnt • Observation of role models
Interactionist Approach
• Both trait and SLT • B=f(PE) –> behaviour is the function (or product of) personality & environment
Interactionist Model
Psychological Core - ‘the real you’ - Remains constant and stable Typical Response - Response in most situs - Can be modified and learnt Role Related Behaviour - Dynamic and changeable - Surface of personality
