Chemical structure
Atoms that are arranged in a substance.
Chemical bond
A force that keeps atoms and ions in place.
Bond length
The distance between the nuclei and two atoms.
Bond angle
The angle of two bonds towards the same atom.
Hydrogen bond
When water molecules attract each other to form a hydrogen bond.
Ionic bond
A bond that is formed by oppositely charged ions.
Metallic
A bond that is formed by positively charged ions and is attracted by metal and electrons.
Covalent bonds
When atoms share one or more pairs of atoms.
Polyatomic ion
An ion that is made of two atoms.
Formula Unit
A chemical formula that is used to represent an ion or group of ions.
Nonpolar covalent bond
Ions that has a similar amount of electrons.
Polar covalent bond
When two electrons are similar in size but split apart to form more ions.
Empirical formula
When a compound shares relative characteristics such as numbers and atoms.
Molecular formula
A formula that shows numbers and amount of atoms but not in an arranged order.
Organic compound
A compound that has carbon, except carbonates and oxides.
Polymer
A molecule that is made by five monomers (small units)
Carbohydrate
A compound that is made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Protein
An organic compound that is the most important part of every cell.
Amino acid
An organic compound that contains carboxyl. It combines with an amino group to form proteins.
Hydrocarbon
An organic compound that is made entirely of hydrogen and carbon.
Alkane
A hydrocarbon with only a single covalent bond.
Alkene
A hydrocarbon that has one or more double covalent bonds.
DNA
DNA is what makes up your whole genetic appearance.
