#1
Front (Question)

What is Newton’s Second Law (momentum)

Back (Answer)

F = ma Resultant force = mass x acceleration N = kg * m/s2

#2
Front (Question)

What is the formula for acceleration?

Back (Answer)

Acceleration = force / mass

#3
Front (Question)

What is the formula for mass?

Back (Answer)

Mass = force / acceleration

#4
Front (Question)

What is inertia?

Back (Answer)

The tendency of an object to stay at rest, or continue at a terminal velocity.

#5
Front (Question)

What is the formula for inertial mass?

Back (Answer)

m = F / a

#6
Front (Question)

What is the formula for weight?

Back (Answer)

Mass x gravity W = mg

#7
Front (Question)

What is terminal velocity?

Back (Answer)

Moving at a constant speed

#8
Front (Question)

What are the variables for the 2nd Law practical?

Back (Answer)

Independent - the masses on either the trolley or the hook Dependent - the acceleration of the trolley Controlled - mass of the trolley / mass of the hook

#9
Front (Question)

How do you conduct the R.P. on F = ma?

Back (Answer)

• Connect the light gate sensor to a data logger to record acceleration. This will be the dependent variable. • Connect the trolley to the pulley and connect the pulley to the hook. • Record the initial masses of the trolley / hook. • Make sure the starting distance for the trolley is a controlled variable by drawing a line. Furthermore, use the same trolley. • Release the trolley carefully. • Record the acceleration, and repeat twice for reliability and an average, • Repeat with either a different mass of the trolley or a different pulling force on the hook depending on investigation.

#10
Front (Question)

What is thinking distance - give factors?

Back (Answer)

How far a car travels during a driver’s reaction to a situation. Factors are speed, intoxication levels

#11
Front (Question)

What is braking distance - give factors?

Back (Answer)

How far a car travels after a driver applies the brakes. Factors are: Speed, terrain, weather, tyres

#12
Front (Question)

What is the formula for kinetic energy?

Back (Answer)

𝐸k=1/2𝑚𝑣2

#13
Front (Question)

Write the formula linking force, distance and work done.

Back (Answer)

Work done = force x distance J = N x m

#14
Front (Question)

Formula for thinking distance

Back (Answer)

Speed of vehicle * reaction time

#15
Front (Question)

Formula for stopping distance

Back (Answer)

Thinking + braking

#16
Front (Question)

Formula for momentum

Back (Answer)

p = mv

#17
Front (Question)

What is the law of conservation of momentum?

Back (Answer)

In a closed system, the total momentum preceding an event equals the total momentum succeeding the event.

#18
Front (Question)

Why is car safety important?

Back (Answer)

Newton’s 2nd Law. When the time is increased, the acceleration is decreased of impact, thus decreasing the resultant force.

#19
Front (Question)

What is an elastic collision?

Back (Answer)

A collision where Ek is fully conserved, which is impossible. This is where objects separate.

#20
Front (Question)

What is an inelastic collision?

Back (Answer)

When objects stick together and Ek isn’t conserved.

#21
Front (Question)

Hooke’s law formula

Back (Answer)

Pulling force = spring constant x extension F = kx OR F = ke

#22
Front (Question)

How proportional are x and F?

Back (Answer)

Direct

#23
Front (Question)

What is plastic deformation?

Back (Answer)

Permanent deformation

#24
Front (Question)

Elastic deformation

Back (Answer)

When the force making the object extend is removed, it returns to its original shape.
