Separated based on affinity for stationary phase, polar TLC plate, and mobile phase, the non-polar solvent. Non polar substances had higher affinity for mobile phase leading to a higher rise. Polar substances climbed less as they formed dipole-dipole interactions with the stationary phase, which need more energy to break, and therefore stay in there longer and don’t move up
How does HPLC differ from TLC
HPLC’s stationary phase has smaller and more absorbent particles which makes the separation more evident. HPLC mobile phase is forced through a column packed with stationary phase under high pressure
