what is VO2 max?
VO2 max can be defined as: “The highest rate of oxygen consumption attainable during maximal or exhaustive exercise” Theres Relative and Absolute: Relative take body weight into account, absolute doesnt
Steady State
The aerobic steady state is reached once there is a balance between the amount of Oxygen needed for activity and the amount of energy being supplied aerobically by the body
LIP
Lactate Inflection Point = The LIP of an individual represents the maximal intensity at which blood lactate is in steady state. The sudden increase occurs when the rate of lactate entry exceeds the rate of lactate removal.
Muscle fibre types
slow twitch = slow twitch are for endurance activities fast twitch = high intensity and short duration activities
muscle fibre characteristics
slow twitch = colour = red speed of action = slow resistance to fatigue = high aerobic or anaerobic = aerobic force production = low storage fuel = triglycerides glycolytic capacity = low fibre diameter = small fast twitch II = colour = pink speed of action = fast resistance to fatigue = moderate/ high aerobic or anaerobic = both force production = intermediate storage fuel = CP, glycogen glycolytic capacity = high fibre diameter = intermediate fast twitch IIb = colour = white speed of action = fast resistance to fatigue = low aerobic or anaerobic = anaerobic force production = high storage fuel = CP, glycogen glycolytic capacity = high fibre diameter = large
