Define an Embedded System
A small computer that forms part of a larger system, device or machine. It includes both hardware and software and it performs a limited range of functions They have a single microprocessor on a circuit board and runs its own Firmware
What is Firmware
a permanent software stored on the embedded system’s memory chip which holds the code needed for it to function
Advantages of embedded systems
Easier to design and manufacture Cost less to make as they have fewer components and don’t need to hire as many specialists to create it. Uses less power Less suceptipal to cyberware if it is not connected to the internet
Disadvantages of embedded systems
Code is fixed / unchangeable Can only do a few / one function Can’t install software Needs a specialist to update
