#1
Front (Question)

Why are inert samples with no H1 atoms used

Back (Answer)

As they have no H atoms they will give no peaks in the H NMR spectrum

#2
Front (Question)

When do you use CCl4 and CDCl3

Back (Answer)

CCl4 is a non-polar compound that is a good solvent for non-polar organic molecules. CDCl3 is a polar covalent molecule that is a good solvent for polar organic molecules.

#3
Front (Question)

Why is TMS used

Back (Answer)

A small amount of TMS (tetramethylsilane) is added to the sample to calibrate the spectrum. *it only gives one signal *its signal is away from all the other H signals *gives strong signal so only a small amount needed *it is non-toxic *it is inert *it has a low boiling point and so can be removed from sample easily

#4
Front (Question)

Keep this is mind

Back (Answer)

The δ depends on what other atoms/groups are near the H – more electronegative groups gives a greater shift

#5
Front (Question)

What is the number of peaks propotional to

Back (Answer)

The number of environemnts

#6
Front (Question)

Relative peak height

Back (Answer)

Higher it is more hydrogens/ carbons

#7
Front (Question)

What is a splitting pattern

Back (Answer)

Number of hydrogens on adjacent carbon + 1

#8
Front (Question)

Fact about N-H and O-H

Back (Answer)

Dont show splittign always singlet
