Adhesion
When molecules stick to other molecules.
Cohesion
When molecules stick to itself Ex. Water sticking to water
Polar Molecule
One side of a molecule is slightly negative while the other is slightly positive
Properties of Matter
Any molecules/properties that can be defined or measured. This can be defined chemically or physically.
Atom
Anything that makes up space is qualified as and atom
Element
Any part of a whole. This cant be broken down into smaller parts or into another substance
Molecule
Made up of one or more atoms that can be the same or different. These atoms are linked together to make a molecule
Compound
Two or more different atoms that have been chemically joined
Solid
Low temperature and energy. Stays still and doesn’t change shape because of container.
Liquid
Molecules move freely but are still close together. Takes the shape of container. Always has a set volume
Gas
Molecules move freely and are really spread out. Has higher temperature and energy. Gas likes to fill container.
Physical Change
Changes that matter physically without changing it chemically.
Mixture
Two or more different substances that do NOT form a chemical bond.
Thermal Energy
The Energy in a system that is responsible for its temperature
Chemical Reaction
Change when molecules rearrange and make something new. New things make and can’t get bake the old thing.
Chemical Bond
When atoms are attracted to each other and join together to form a molecule, they are also different types of these bonds depending on how that are joined together and how many.
