B1.2 HL Protein Structure
No description yet. This curated deck is ready for daily study.
Card preview (8)
What is primary (1°) structure?
Linear sequence of amino acids linked by peptide bonds.
What is tertiary (3°) structure?
Overall 3D folding due to R-group interactions (ionic, disulfide, hydrophobic).
What is secondary (2°) structure?
Local folding into α-helices or β-pleated sheets stabilized by hydrogen bonds.
What is quaternary (4°) structure?
Association of multiple polypeptide chains (e.g. haemoglobin = 4 subunits).
What is a conjugated protein?
Protein with a non-polypeptide component (prosthetic group), e.g. haem group in haemoglobin.
What is a non-conjugated protein?
Protein made only of amino acid chains (e.g. insulin).
What methods determine protein structure?
X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and AI modeling (e.g. AlphaFold).
