what are the three type of salt practicles
• titration • precipitation reaction • excess solid
when would you use a titration
• to find out concerntration • to make a salt from an acid and alkali
decribe a titration method
• pipette alkali solution into a cronical flask • add a few drops of phenolphthalein indicator • put acid into the burette • add acid to alakli with swirling motion until indicator changes from pink to colourless • record your burette volume and repeat until concordent results are achieved
could you make pure salt crystals from a titration
no - you would have to repeat without the indicator and heat solution to crystalisation point, filter, wash and dry
how many decimal place values do titration results have
2 eg. 19.50
what is the range for a concordent result
plus or minus 0.1cm^2
define percipitate
an insoluble salt made from two solutions
describe the method to make an insoluble salt from two solutions
• mix lead nitrate and magnesium sulfate (dissolved in water) together • lead sulfate (percipitate) forms (insoluble salt) • filter out (lead sulfate) the percipitate • wash with distilled water • leave to dry in a warm oven
given its another way of making salt but in paper 1 as well: describe the method for an excess solid method
• heat the sulfuric acid • add balck copper oxide powder to excess and stir • filter out excess copper ocide powder • heat blue copper sulfate solution until crystalisation point and leave to cool • filter out the crystals and wash with distilled water • leave to dry or between filter paper
