• Infrared radiation increases vibrational energy of covalent bonds in the sample. • The frequency of IR being absorbed depends on the atoms at either side of the bond and the position in the molecule. • A graph shows the intensity for different frequencies (so there’s dips in the frequendies absorbed by the bonds).
