Card preview (7)

#1
Front (Question)

What is relative atomic mass?

Back (Answer)

The average mass of an atom

#2
Front (Question)

What if formula mass?

Back (Answer)

The total mass of all the atoms in a formula

#3
Front (Question)

What is 1 mole equal to?

Back (Answer)

Gram Formula Mass (GFM)

#4
Front (Question)

What does a balanced equation show?

Back (Answer)

The number of moles of each reactant and product in a reaction.

#5
Front (Question)

Describe industrial chemistry

Back (Answer)

In the chemical industry chemicals are manufactured in large quantities. Masses can be measured in grams (g), kilograms (kg) or tonnes. The ratios of the reactants and products from the balanced equation remain the same whether the mass units are expressed in grams, kilograms or tonnes.

#6
Front (Question)

Describe concentration

Back (Answer)

The concentration of a solution tells you the number of moles of solute present in 1 litre of solution. The units of concentration are mole per litre. This is written as mol l-1. This means that 0.35 mol l-1 solution contains 0.35 moles in 1 litre of solution.

#7
Front (Question)

What is percentage mass?

Back (Answer)

The percentage mass of an element in a compound is the fraction the element contributes to the formula mass expressed as a percentage.
