They are digested as quick energy and are made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Complex carbohydrates have longer chains of sugar molecules and take longer for the body to digest. The body converts complex carbohydrates, such as bread or pasta, into glucose to use for energy.

The elements in lipids are Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen. Lipids are large nonpolar molecules that do not dissolve in water. The phospholipid bilayer is found in the cell membrane. Categories of lipids are: triglycerides, phospholipids,wax and steroids (cholesterol is an example of a steroid).
Differentiate between hydrophilic and hydrophobic.
Hydrophilic means the characteristic to attracted to water, and hydrophobic is the tendency to repel water. The phospholipid heads are hydrophilic phosphates and the tails are hydrophobic fatty acids .
