What is the key component of environmental science?
Ecology
What is a community of organisms that interact with each other and non-living components for sustainable development and adaptation to changing conditions.
Ecosystem
It is called ____ if we combine all the ecosystems present on earth
Biosphere
What are the major habitat conditions that the ecosystem is divided into
Terrestrial or land-based ecosystem and aquatic ecosystem
Who proposed the term ecosystem?
A.G. Tansley (1935)
According to A.G. Tansley, what is an ecosystem defined as?
“Ecosystem is defined as a self-sustained community of plants and animals existing in its own environment.”
Who defined an ecosystem as “any unit that includes all the organisms in a given area interacting with the physical environment, so that a flow of energy gives rise to a clearly defined tropic structure, biotic diversity, and material cycles within the system”
Odum (1971)
Michael Allaby (1983) defined an ecosystem as?
“a community of interdependent organisms together with the environment”
Concept of Ecosystem
the interaction of life with its environment takes place at many levels. A single bacteria in the soil interacts with water, air around it within a small space while a fish in a river interacts with water and other animals, rivals in a large space.
Classification of Ecosystem
Artificial and Natural Ecosystems
Non-Living Components
Abiotic
Living Components
Biotic
Biotic Components
• Producer • Consumers • Decomposers or Detritivores
