excess fertilisers run off into the lakes , rivers and dams this causes the an algae bloom to occur in dams algae bloom causes the the increase of algae and plant growth on the surface of the water due to the plants and algae covering the surface of the water it blocked sunlight to plants growing on the lower levels under the water this causes the plants on the lower levels to die and decompose fish that feed on the plants in the lower levels will not have food and as a result they die and decompose this causes a decrease in the water quality
