Kinesis
are non-directional and involve random movement ( Changes speed and direction of movement)
Kinesis example
In bright light, flatworms move faster and rate of turning decrease so they go in a straight line which allows them to increase the chances of leaving unfavourable conditions to avoid predation Wood lice like damp conditions, so if a woodlice crossed a border from a damp to dry area the rate of turning rapidly increases to increase the chances of ending up in the damp area.
Taxis
Directional responses which involve moving the whole body towards or away from stimuli
Taxis example
Earthworms show negative phototaxis, meaning they will move away from light. They will move towards dark environments, such as the soil to avoid predators, dehydration and to locate food Bacteria can show positive chemotaxis as they move towards chemicals to survive
