where does krebs cycle happen
in matrix
does krebs cycle need oxygen
yes
first stage of krebs cycle
1 - acetyl - CoA + 4C - 6C compound
whats the 4 like titles of krebs cycle
1 - acetyl CoA+4C - 6C compound 2 - decarboxylation 3 - dehydrogenation 4 - substrate level phosphorylation
2nd stage of krebs cycle
decarboxylation co2 released twice 6C compound returns to 4C
whats the 3rd stage of dehydrogenation
hydrogen removed + transfered to co-enzymes 3NAD - 3NADH 1 FAD - 1 FADH
whats the 4th step of krebs cycle
substrate level phosphorylation produces 1 ATP
yield per glucose (everything)
NADH - 6 FADH -2 ATP - 2 Co2 - 4
yield per glucose - NADH
6
yield per glucose - FADH
2
yield per glucose - ATP
2
yield per glucose - Co2

why does it need oxygen if oxygen isn’t actually used in the cycle?
oxygen is the final electron acceptor without oxygen electrons cant move through ETC so reduced NAD and reduced FAD cannot drop off their hydrogens so cannot be reoxidised into NAD and FAD mitochondrial matrix runs out of NAD / FAD so dehydrogenase enzymes in krebs cycle have nothing to gibe hydrogens to so cycle stops
What happens to Coenzyme A once it has delivered the Acetate group to the Krebs Cycle?
its regenerated leaves 6C mol and returns to link reaction combines with another mol of pyruvate to form mroe acetyl CoA
how does CO2 move out the body after
waste product of decarboxylation diffuses out of mitochondrial matrix into blood and exhaled for every 1 glucose, 6 CO2 in total released (4 in krebs and 2 in link)
by the end of krebs cycle how many ATP have been produced in total
2
by the end how many mols of NADH are produced in total
