Generate a list identifying different ways to organise biological systems 6
Physiological, population, cuommunity, landscape, ecosystem, evolutionary
Why is studying biological systems from multiple perspectives more appropriate? Is this realistic
Yes, you can look at diff things depending on the perspecive Use the mouse and the wolf analogy it is better so use their perspective for better context, lvls of complexity seen better
Explain why hierarchical arrangements of organisation, for biological systems, are erroneous. Can you identify some benefits?
You can look at any other perspecive on any other heirarchy and see diff things, place to much importance on ourselves hierarchical arrangements may oversimplify the complexity of organisms and the scale on which they operate, however they are beneficial because they give us a place to start
What are the components/sections of a scientific study?
(This is me guessing, he did not say this explicitly in class) Pick the species you want to study, pick some areas of the species that you want to study Make a hypothesis, what are you questioning? Why are you questioning. What qustions are you asking Think of a method to test these questions What are you expecting to find? See what happens and the maybe change something about the study
What is a complex system? Identify a complex system and outline a scientific study aimed at understanding this system from two levels of organisation (i.e. two perspectives)
syst with multi thing, components. Interactions make a larger whole ex leafcutter ants look at 2 of Physiological, population, cuommunity, landscape, ecosystem, evolutionary ex pop, landscape
Diff between cladograms and phylogenetic trees.
phylo - has more branches to show most common ancestor. When things branched off, takes time into account cladogram -shows the oldest ancestor of the species, does not take time into account, just based off share characteristic
