a systemic, repeated performance of structured exercise sessions over a period of time, with the achievement of a specific goal in mind.

a failure to provide adequate stimulation to the body by training too infrequently or at too low of an intensity
Overtraining
occurs if an athlete attempts to do more training than they are able to physically or mentally tolerate over a prolonged period.
Overreaching
occurs when an athlete places stress on their body that is beyond their current limit of tolerance, but only for a short period of time.
What are all of the training principles?
Principle of Specificity Principle of Reversibility Principle of Progressive Overload Principle of Recovery and Rest Principle of Variety Principle of Periodization
Transition (Post-Season) Phase
the main goal of this phase is to allow the athlete to recover, reflect, and maintain fitness
Preparation (Pre-Season) Phase
has the idea to prepare the athlete with the physical, psychological, technical, and tactical tools necessary to maximize their performance in competition
General Preparatory Phase
develops basic fitness and conditioning
Specific Preparatory Phase
develops skills and technical requirement for success in competition
Competition Phase
encourages athletes to maintain peak physical condition, improve sports-specific skills and technique, and perfect tactical approaches by gaining competition experience
Sub-phases of a periodized training program?
Macrocycle, Mesocycle, Microcycle
Macrocycle
an athlete’s training program for an entire season
Mesocycle
a block of training composed of several weeks containing microcycles
Microcycle
a weekly training program
Habitual Physical Activity
Bodily movements produced almost automatically by the contraction of skeletal muscles with low energy expenditure
Exercise
Planned, structured, and repetitive bodily movements performed to improve or maintain one or more components of physical fitness
Sports
An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another

too little physical activity or exercise
Examples of Hypokinetic Diseases?
Coronary Heart Disease Hypertension Stroke Obesity Type 2 Diabetes Osteoprosis Chronic Lower Back Pain Cancer
What are the components that influence the creation of a training program?
Baseline Values, Age, Sex Differences, Individual Differences (High Responders vs. Non-Responders), Genetics, Overtraining
How are baseline values used to create a training program?
Baseline Values are used as a reference point to measure one’s strength, endurance, speed, or body composition
