What is Matter?
All things that have mass or take up space have matter. An example of matter would be a desk, or even the air we breathe. Sound and light do not have matter.
What is Chemistry?
Chemistry is about what things are made of, what properties those objects have, and how those objects can change and interact with the environment around them.
What is an Element?
An element is a substance that is only made up of one type of atom.
What is an Atom?
Atoms make up everything in the world. It is the smallest part of an element.
What is a Compound?
A compound is something that is made up of two or more different types of atoms.
What is a Molecule?
A molecule is the smallest part of a substance that makes up all of the physical and chemical properties of an object.
What is the Chemical Formula?
The chemical formula is a combination of chemical symbols to show what a substance contains in it.
What is a Pure Substance?
A pure substance is matter that is a single element or a single compound that has definite chemical and physical properties.
What is a Mixture?
A mixture is a combination of two or more substances that arephysically combined to make something new, but not chemically combined.
What is a Heterogenous Mixture?
A heterogenous mixture is something that does not fully mix with another object, like taco salad.
What is a Homogenous Mixture?
A homogenous mixture is a mixture that fully mixes with another substance and you cannot physically see what you mixed in with that substance.
What is Miscible?
A miscible liquid is when the liquids mix together well and you can not see definite layers but know there are more than one liquids in the mixture.
What is Immiscible?
An immiscible liquid is when two or more liquids will not mix together and you can see definite layers between the liquids.
What is Melting Point?
The temperature when a solid melts into a liquid.
What is Boiling Point?
Boiling point is the temperature when a liquid starts to boil and turn into a gas.
What is Density?
Density is how much matter is packed into a certain amount of space.
What is Reactivity?
Reactivity tells how reactive an object is, such as their ability to mix with other substances.
What is Flammability?
Flammability is the ability for an object to burn when there is oxygen around it.
What is a Physical Change?
A physical change is when something changes and you can physically see it with the naked eye.
What is a Chemical Change?
A chemical change is a change in which the substance changes identity and is no longer the same substance as it was before, and often can never be reversed.
