What is the proper order of how natural selection works
variation - competition - adaptation - selection
What is principal of superposition
the idea that newer rock layers are closer to the surface
What is absolute dating
using ratioactive isotopes to determine age of rock
What was Jean-Baptiste Lamarck incorrect theory on evolution
organisms develop beneficial traits in their life-time
What are the five types of evolution
Natural Selection - Movement - Mutation - Sexual Selection - Small Population
What is a homologous structure
similar structures that have been inherited from a common ancestor
What is an analogous structure
structures that have developed the same function but in different enviroments
What is a vestigal structure
structures that no longer serve a function in modern organisms
What is sexual selection
individuals choose mates based on physical apperance
what is intersexual selection
Female choice, compitition between sexes
What is intrasexual selection
compition between a sex, male-male combat
What is relative-age dating
Law of superpositon, order of layers
What is mimicry?
An speices resembles another speices
What is variation?
Indivduals are different in a species
What is Overproduction?
Many offspring creates competition for resources
What is Adaptation?
Variations in a population allows individuals to survive better
What is Selection?
over time, a population will result in adaptations that are well suited to its enviroment
