What kind of object can light completely pass through?
Transparent objects, which let all light pass through.
What kind of object can some light pass through?
Translucent objects, but you can’t see through them.
What kind of object can no light pass through?
Opaque objects.
What is an object called that gives off their own light?
Luminous objects.
What type of object doesn’t give off their own type of light
Non-luminous objects
What happens to light when it hits a rough surface?
It is scattered in many different directions. (diffuse reflection)
What kind of objects reflect light perfectly? (in theory)
Smooth, shiny objects (Specular reflection)
What is the Law of Reflection?
Angle of incidence = Angle of reflection.
What is refraction?
It is the bending of light. It happens when light moves from air to glass or water, slowing it down. The light bends towards the normal line inside the glass, making the angle of incidence smaller than the angle of refraction. Angle of incidence > Angle of refraction
What are the 3 primary colours?
Red, Green, Blue RGB
What are the secondary colours?
Cyan, made from blue and green Magenta, made of blue and red Yellow, made of red and green
What is dispersion?
It is when white light is split up by a prism into a spectrum (made up of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet).
How do we see coloured objects?
Because they only reflect the colour it is, absorbing the rest. Black objects absorb all colours, and white objects reflect all colours.
What are colour filters?
Objects that transmit some colours and absorb others.
How does light travel?
In straight rays or waves (transverse wave).
What is a transverse wave?
A wave where the vibrations or oscillations are at right angles (90°) to the direction the wave is traveling.
