Puberty (male)
At puberty a releaser hormone is produced by the hypothalamus This causes the pituitary gland to release follicle stimulation hormone (FSH) and interstitial cell stimulating hormone (ICSH). This triggers the onset of puberty
Sperm production
FSH and ICSH act on the testes. FSH promotes sperm production and ICSH stimulates the production of testosterone Sperm are produced from germline stem cells by meiosis Testosterone stimulates sperm production and activates the prostate gland and seminal vesicles
Control of testosterone production
There is negative feedback control of testosterone production by FSH and ICSH. High levels of testosterone inhibits FSH and ICSH production
