Free fall
Is a motion in which an object is moving under the influence of gravitational force only where there is no air resistance
Project
An object which has been given an initial velocity and it moves under the influence of the gravitational force only
Kinetic friction
The force acting parallel to a surface and opposes the motion of a moving object relative to the surface
Static friction
The force acting parallel to a surface and opposes the tendency of motion of a stationary object relative to the surface
Normal force
The force or component of the force which a surface exerts on an object with which it is in contact and always perpendicular to the to the surface
Newton’s third law
When object A exerts a force only object B ,object B simultaneously exerts a force of equal in magnitude but in opposite direction on object A
Momentum
Linear momentum is the product of an object’s mass and its velocity
Newton’s 2nd law in terms of momentum
A net/resultant force acting on an object is equal to the rate of change of momentum of the object in the direction of the force
Principle of conservation of momentum
Total linear momentum in an isolated system remains constant
Closed system
A system in which the net external force acting on the force is zero
Impulse
The product of the net force acting on an object and the time the net force acts on the object
Elastic collision
A collision in which both total momentum and total kinetic energy are conserved
Inelastic
A collision during which kinetic energy is not conserved
Weightlessness
Emf
Maximum energy provided by a battery per unit coulumb of a charge passing through it
Internal resistance
The resistance within a battery which causes a drop in the potential difference of the battery when there is a current in the circuit
Ohm’s law
The potential difference across a resistor is directly proportional to the current provided, the temperature remains constant
Electric field
A region of space in which an electric charge experience a force
Electric field at a point
The electrostatic force experience per unit positive charge placed at that point
Mechanical energy
The sum of kinetic and potential energy
Work
When a force is applied on an object and the object moves in the direction of the applied force
Work energy theorem
The net work done is equal to the change in kinetic energy of an object
Conservative force
Work done doesn’t depend on the path taken Fg,fg||,electrostatic
Non conservative force
Work done depends on path taken E.g Tension, applied force, friction force
