What does the hypothalamus secrete to activate the pituitary gland in both male and females to start puberty?
A releaser hormone
What does the pituitary gland start secreting in both and females after being stimulated by the releaser hormone ?
Females - FSH, LH Males - FSH , ICSH
What three things to hormones control ?
• the onset of puberty • sperm production • the menstrual cycle
What does the hypothalamus secrete to target the pituitary gland in order to start puberty
A releaser hormone
After the releaser hormone stimulates the pituitary gland in both male and females what does that then start to secrete ?
Females - FSH, LH Males - FSH, ICSH
What are the target tissues in males for ICSH and FSH?
ICSH- Interstitial cells FSH- Seminiferous Tubules
What effect does FSH have on the seminiferous tubules?
It promotes sperm production
What effect does ICSH have on the interstitial cells?
It stimulates testosterone production and then testosterone further stimulates sperm production
How does testosterone stimulate sperm production ?
It activates the prostate gland and seminiferous vesicles to start secretions
What happens to the production of sperm if there is a high concentration of testosterone?
It will decrease as the testosterone will inhibit the secretion of FSH and ICSH in the pituitary gland
What are the two stages of the menstrual cycle and what days do they happen across?
Follicular Phase - day 1to 14 Luteul Phase - Day 15 to 28
What for things beginning with F can be used to remember the first half of menstruation ?
• Follicular Phase • First Half of Menstruation • FSH • Follicle Development
When is the highest concentration of oestrogen ?
Just before ovulation
What does ovulation occur ?
During the mid point of menstruation
What triggers ovulation ?
LH
How can the abbreviation Lol be used to remember the luteul phase
• Luteul Phase • Ovulation • LH
This is not a flashcards just remember to check the menstruation bio essay flashcards cause they contain a lot of the stuff u just missed out making these
:)
If fertilisation occurs what takes over the production of progesterone?
Placenta
If fertilisation occurs what ensures that the woman will not get her period ?
• the high progesterone levels means that it has an inhibitory effect on the production of FSH and LH ensuring no more follicles or ovum and stimulated or released
