Give the advantages of a light microscope
ADVANTAGES: -easy to use -cheap / affordable • you can use live specimens • true to colour (but sometimes need staining NOTE: 🧠 In a light microscope: You can observe living specimens ✔ But when you add most stains, the specimen is usually dead ❌
Give the disadvantages of a light microscope
DISADVANTAGES: -Low resolution due to wavelength
Give the advantages of a SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope)
ADVANTGES: - much higher resolution than light microscope -high magnification -provides detailed images of surface structure • ‘3D’ image
Give the disadvantages of a SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope)
DISADVANTAGES: - expensive -require extensive training • black and white (false colour) -samples must be dead (vacuums /stains)
Give the advantages of a TEM (Transmission Electron Microscope)
ADVANTAGES: -much higher resolution than a light microscope -high magnification -provides detailed images of interior structure
Give the disadvantages of a TEM (Transmission Electron Microscope)
DISADVANTAGES: -expensive • extensive training is required -black and white -samples must be dead -‘2D’image
