#1
Front (Question)

what is the respiratory system

Back (Answer)

it is responsible for supplying oxygen to the body and removing carbon dioxide from the body

#2
Front (Question)

what is the word equation for respiration

Back (Answer)

glucose+oxygen—carbon D+ water+energy

#3
Front (Question)

where does respiration take place

Back (Answer)

in the cells

#4
Front (Question)

list the main components for the respiratory system

Back (Answer)

nose mouth trachea and other air passages lungs blood

#5
Front (Question)

what is the trachea

Back (Answer)

the tube through which the air travels to the lungs

#6
Front (Question)

what do you call bronchi which branch into smaller tubes

Back (Answer)

bronchioles

#7
Front (Question)

where does the air eventually end up

Back (Answer)

in tiny hollow cavities called alveoli

#8
Front (Question)

what important processes take place in the alveoli

Back (Answer)

gaseous exchange

#9
Front (Question)

what is each alveoli surrounded by

Back (Answer)

blood capillaries

#10
Front (Question)

describe what the walls of eh capillaries and alveoli consist of

Back (Answer)

a single layer of cells

#11
Front (Question)

explain the process of gaseous exchange

Back (Answer)

• PULMONARY ARTERY brings DEOXYGENATED BLOOD from the HEART to the lung • this eventually gets to the capillaries surrounding the alveoli -CARBON . D diffuses from blood into alveoli OXYGEN diffuses from alveoli through walls into the capillaries • concentration of CARBON D in blood DECREASES and the concentration of OXYGEN in blood INCREASES • capillaries move away from alveoli and combine to form veins • PULMONARY VEIN carries OXYGENATED BLOOD to the heart from lungs

#12
Front (Question)

what is diffusion

Back (Answer)

the movement of molecules from an area of a high concentration to an area of low concentration down a diffusion gradient
