Card preview (9)
Why is cell growth limited?
Cells that get too big makes them inefficient at obtaining nutrients and getting waste out along with a DNA overload
Why/How do unicellular organisms reproduce?
Through asexual reproduction (cloning)
Why/How do multicellular organisms duplicate cells?
An egg has to be fertilized in order to grow and develop; they also need it to repair and replace dead cells
Interphase
Period of growth that occurs between cell divisions (PREPPING, NOT DIVIDING YET)
G1 (First Gap Phase)
Cells start to grow into a mature size
S phase (Synthesis phase)
Occurring when surface area/volume imbalances occur causing DNA to be copied
G2 phase (Second Gap Phase)
Cell prepares for cell division in order for cellular organelles to be produced
What has to be copied?
DNA, Organelles, cell membrane, lots of molecules (enzymes)
How does the cell avoid breaking the DNA inside the nucleus?
The DNA coils with the help of proteins allowing it to be able to move around without breaking
